At last – the skating is understood – including how skating is rendered impossible by rotation. The feed forward of the outside ski across the slope as the body goes face first downhill is what pulls the ski onto its edge – and allows the centre of mass a more direct line downhill. This also adds another dimension to angulation – with the leg moving out laterally in a functional manner – meaning that it’s not a contrived angulation just by dropping the hips into the turn.
The sensation is of the body facing downhill and moving from side (apex) to side – without turning – plus a powerful capacity to generate speed.
