The great thing about learning to ski is the peace and tranquility of the natural mountain environment in the depths of winter…
There is a shortage of fresh snow now after what looked like a promising start to the season a few weeks ago. The pistes have already gone icy and compact – with the rain and artificially made snow adding to the problems. Lower down the mountain the off piste is tricky with rain crust and wind blown power in patches. Higher up off-piste the conditions are simply lethal – but has become very cold again with -11°C at 1850m yesterday mid afternoon. The wind slabs will have to come down (avalanche) before there is any stability for skiing on steep north east facing slopes.
