Today we started off back on flat ground with a warm up through skating exercises. Gilad seemed a bit lost with this but it’s understandable because he doesn’t know at this stage why all this effort is needed – but he listened to my advice and managed the exercises well and we were soon on our way to the moving carpet lift again.
Surprisingly Adi appeared to be unable to control her turns on the easy descent despite progressing well yesterday morning – but it turned out to be bruised shins and consequently pains from damage caused by her rental skiboots yesterday. This condition forced Adi to retire for the day and hopefully have the chance to heal better. My advice is to use ice on the bruises and any swelling. She really needs lady’s boots – (anatomically appropriate) and they might have to be bought. Either that or find a rental shop that has actually them. The boots today looked like they might work but only once the shins are less sensitive
Gilad and Nama continued, working on improving their ability to control speed properly on steeper slopes. Most people get into trouble when they try to finish a turn and feel how much of a battle it is resisting gravity – they make the mistake of giving up and trying to start another turn – just gaining more and more speed. Once they realise that the start of the turn with gravity pulling down is the easy part and then they continue pushing the body “inward” toward the turn centre for the second part – against gravity – then they are free to ski almost anywhere.
The rest of our session was about making use of a chairlift and proper green run – “freedom”!
