Adi returned to the slopes today recovered from her aches and pains – but to be greeted by a storm. Two runs down the steeper section of the beginner’s slope and she was already up to speed to tackle the chairlift and green run. This is what I’d expected of Adi yesterday so it’s good to see everything back as it should be.
I explained to Adi that in a wide snowplough we can only really use the feet – that is – rolling the outside foot of the turn onto its inside edge (pronating) – while flattening (supinating) the inside foot. This causes the outside ski to push the skier toward the turn centre. We only have to do this while in a wide plough and completely controlling speed – it ensures that you can complete the turns across the hill and stop at any time. The idea is to build a sense of security and understanding of how to always be safe.
Later on a descent with Adi alone we narrowed the plough and started to use the outside leg to push the body toward the centre of the turn – adding this to the effect from the foot and ski. Adi also understood to avoid rotating her body into the turns and that the skis turn her instead of her turning the skis!
During our video session Gilad had the responsibility for guiding Adi safely – he did a great job!
Naama was content just practicing and keeping up with the children – with the main focus on bringing Adi up to speed today. The biggest moment was when Adi got off the chairlift by herself without falling over backwards! It was nice to see her happy about skiing today and enjoying it after such a hard start on the first two days due to boot problems.
