Pivot
- initiate turn from uphill edge of uphill ski
- stand on the outside edge of the foot
- engage the adductor muscles on both legs
- push the Centre of Mass downhill (not “upward”)
- wide stance gives stronger push off and solid support from the start of the turn
- wide stance cultivates independent leg action
- narrow stance (adductors pulled together) gives stronger pivot
- narrow stance gives a two footed platform for deep off piste snow and a bounce
- pivoting from the downhill ski only requires strong adductor contraction and the Centre of Mass to be controlled by the pole planted firmly downhill.
- pivoting in a compression turn requires a replacement of the “push off” by a pronounced absorption/flexion of the legs
- Compression/pivot requires feet to be together
