Luke Leonie Day 1

Pivot

  • initiate turn from uphill edge of uphill ski
  • stand on the outside edge of the foot
  • engage the adductor muscles on both legs
  • push the Centre of Mass downhill (not “upward”)
  • wide stance gives stronger push off and solid support from the start of the turn
  • wide stance cultivates independent leg action
  • narrow stance (adductors pulled together) gives stronger pivot
  • narrow stance gives a two footed platform for deep off piste snow and a bounce
  • pivoting from the downhill ski only requires strong adductor contraction and the Centre of Mass to be controlled by the pole planted firmly downhill.
  • pivoting in a compression turn requires a replacement of the “push off” by a pronounced absorption/flexion of the legs
  • Compression/pivot requires feet to be together
