Tension and previous experience were keeping Sarah locked into a mode of movement that rendered dynamics practically inaccessible. Understanding what “dynamics” means in skiing terms can sometimes require that it is actually felt first.
The exercise “punching” across the skis into a turn finally got Sarah’s centre of mass to move very visibly into the turn and remain there for the whole turn. Doing this exercise also unlocked the tension and the understanding – with turns consequently being sharp and effective.
Technically the exercise shows excessive body rotation but that is irrelevant at this stage the key being a convincing connection with dynamics and the centre of mass.
Once you can actively use dynamics then from there on your skiing will only go from strength to strength – all the rest is detail in comparison.
