Sophie prior to today could not pivot – today she “got it” and stopped trying to force the skis to turn – just using a lateral “swing” of the skis following the centre of mass – using support from the ski pole.
This step forward came after doing sideslipping exercises.
Sophie also started smoothing out her parallel turns by initiating the turns from the uphill edge of her uphill ski – until she starts to go too fast (as she does in the video!) then she snatches the start of the turn and becomes unstable (most probably this is what causes her falls).
Sophie has leaped ahead of Steven for the skill of pivoting but Steven’s parallel turns are more fluid and stable – with early pressure and grip from the start of all of his turns.
We also worked a little on compression turns, jump turns, sideslipping using the centre of mass and skiing backwards.
