When asked how to make a turn on skis Charlie answered “Transfer of weight – toward the uphill ski”. He’s been paying attention to his lessons because that is exactly what is taught in ski schools – and it’s why in the “Before” video above Charlie looks particularly upright and unstable. So lets compare that with how a top racer might look…
The comparison is not a out of place as one might think – today Charlie, Harriet and Lorraine all began working directly on Dynamics – for which a more complete explanation is found here…

The “After” video shows a definite improvement in dynamics but even though the skiers might feel that they are pushing themselves over quite strongly – the video feedback here shows that there’s still a long way to go. This is about “Extending Dynamic Range”. Your problem is never about being in “balance” the real problem is that you can’t fall over enough!
We worked on skating and using the subtaler joints beneath the ankles to edge the feet appropriately – more can be found about skating here…

Charlie skied with me a while on his own and he was assisted in making his first “pivot” turn – the principles are explained and demonstrated fully here… (as with dynamics it’s about controlling the centre of mass and everything moving inward toward the centre of the turn)
