Sally, Bethany, Steve day 1

Our session began on the flattest ground that was available working on skating principles and how to use the feet and centre of mass appropriately. The aim was to raise awareness of the fundamental elements needed to develop solid and safe skiing technique – based on an understanding of skating and dynamics. To accelerate the learning process and get everyone moving on the piste we had to employ a wide snowplough but with the dynamics added on – instead of using “weight transfer”.

The beginner/skating exercises are found at this link… http://madeinmountains.com/beginners/

We managed to get everyone up and running on the long green run – snowploughing and giving the body time to get used to sliding. Bethany grew steadily in confidence throughout the session. The main thing was to have awareness of dynamics and to get the developmental process started. Over the next few days this will develop naturally.
