Sophie, Sandra

We covered a lot of ground but the most important thing was drilling in the meaning of DYNAMICS!
Both “dynamics” and “pivoting” have fixed pages that explain what we did today in detail.

Dynamics
In the beginner’s section there is an entire program based on skating and how to develop the movement of the centre of mass.

Sandra was more relaxed and already had some natural dynamics working for her – her main concern being how to control her speed when it was steeper. We sorted that out with dynamics – driving the centre of mass into the turn right through to the end of the turn. We continued with the development of more active dynamics.

Sophie was initially very upright and unstable due to “transferring weight” and trying to be in balance. That destroys confidence and it can take time to restore it. Once Sophie grasped the idea of dynamics things looked a lot better – but tiredness became an issue by the end of the session and when the video was taken. The only comment I’ll make regarding the video is to bring the body more perpendicular with the slope when it’s steep. Remember to use the feet in skating mode – rocked onto their inside edges.

Head for the Grand Pré slope tomorrow! It’s perfect for getting in mileage and practice without stress.
